104 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, as they opened fire on a crowd waiting for the delivery of food aid in the Southwest of Gaza City in the Nablsi Square.
The Gaza Strip is battling an impending famine, as severe malnutrition and hunger become near ubiquitous in the besieged enclave.
In an interview to The Guardian, the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the right to food Michael Fakhri has suggested that the denial of food to the Palestinian population of Gaza constitutes a war crime and genocide.
"Intentionally depriving people of food is clearly a war crime. Israel has announced its intention to destroy the Palestinian people, in whole or in part, simply for being Palestinian. In my view as a UN human rights expert, this is now a situation of genocide. This means the state of Israel in its entirety is culpable and should be held accountable – not just individuals or this government or that person," said Fakhri in his interview.
