A member of the Ahmadiyya community was gunned down by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Friday in District Mirpurkhas in Sindh, Pakistan.
According to a press release issued by Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, 40-year-old Ameer Hassan was on his way home after offering prayers at his place of worship when two unidentified armed men followed him on a motorcycle, confirmed his identity, and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
The attackers managed to flee from the scene after killing Hassan.
Hassan is survived by his widow, three daughters, and two sons. His elder daughter is 14 years old, while his youngest is just 8 months old.
He was a local office-bearer of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya and had faced severe religious hatred in the area.
While expressing grief over the murder, Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan spokesperson Amir Mehmood stated that Ahmadis are being killed due to religious hatred. Last week, a religious extremist killed an Ahmadi man named Tayyab Ahmed with an axe in Rawalpindi.
He added that a provocative campaign is being run against Ahmadis across the country, which has left members of the Ahmadi community facing insecurity. He emphasized that it is the duty of the authorities to ensure the safety of patriotic and peace-loving Ahmadis.
He urged the state authorities to take strict action against religious extremists and bring the murderers to justice.
