The United Kingdom's general election took place on July 4, and the immigration issue kept on coming up during the debate. Over a decade of the Conservative Party's rule has made a mess of the immigration policy, experts say. In this episode, Rabia Mehmood asks the guest Nilmini Roelens, a solicitor and immigration law expert from the United Kingdom, about why the immigration policy is so critical, and if there is a possibility of improvement in the said policy if the Labour Party comes to power.
In addition to the business and family immigration cases, Roelens has also extensively worked on protection cases of asylum seekers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, and Eritrea, she commented on the discriminatory approach towards Afghan refugees as compared to Ukrainians in the UK. Roelens also highlights how the continuous amendments to immigration rules impact the student visa schemes for applicants from countries including India, Pakistan, China, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.
