The United States has lauded Maryam Nawaz's election as Pakistan's first female Chief Minister on Monday, calling it a "milestone in Pakistani politics."
While responding to a question during his daily news briefing, State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller said, "We look forward to working with Pakistan in a broader way to fully integrate women into the country's political life and economy, including through the US Pakistan Women's Council, civil society, and other decision-making spaces."
“An inclusive Pakistan provides for a strong, wealthy country that all Pakistanis benefit from; thus, we are always glad to see cracks in the glass ceiling elsewhere in the globe,” he added.
On March 8, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will unveil the 'Never Again' app, which aims to eliminate violence against women.
As per sources, the app will be launched on International Women's Day.
It is worth noting that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who was elected as the province's first female chief minister, stated in her inaugural statement in the Punjab Assembly that the protection of women in the province was her top concern.
She said that she wanted to make Punjab a better, safer place for women and that it was her obligation to provide them with safe and secure surroundings.
On the other hand, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated Shehbaz Sharif on his swearing-in as the country's 24th prime minister.
