In this episode of #Unraveled, host Marvi Sirmed talks with Seema Sirohi, a veteran journalist and author with nearly three decades of experience in U.S.-India relations. They discuss the recent India-Iran Chabahar port deal and its strategic importance for India, providing access to Central Asia and bypassing Pakistan.

Despite the U.S.'s history of sanctions on Iran, Sirohi explains why severe sanctions on India are unlikely. "The deal is very important for India because it gives India access to the landlocked countries of Central Asia and an alternate route that bypasses Pakistan," she says. She also points out, "I would be very surprised if the U.S. decides to impose sanctions on India given all the other stakes in the U.S.-India relationship."

Sirohi highlights India's significant investment in Chabahar and the strategic interests it serves, including countering China in the Indo-Pacific. She also references India's successful diplomatic efforts with the S-400 deal as a precedent for navigating complex international relations.
