The United Nation’s Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has condemned Israel for the “heartbreaking” massacre of Palestinian civilians.

“Israel’s military operations have spread mass destruction and killed civilians on a scale unprecedented during my time as Secretary-General,” Guterres said at the closing ceremony of the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda.

“[Israel’s behavior] is heartbreaking and utterly unacceptable,” Guterres added.

Over 25,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 62,000 injured in Israeli air strikes since October 7. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza are worsening due to a shortage of food, drinking water, medical supplies and fuel due to Israel’s blockade of the Strip.

The UK’s defence secretary Grant Shapps has labelled Israeli Prime Minister’s opposition to a Palestinian state “disasppointing.” “Unless you pursue a two-state solution, I really don’t see that there is another solution.” Shapps claimed that the UK “certainly remains wedded” to a two-state solution.

France’s foreign minister Stephane Sejourne posted on X (formerly Twitter) that “Palestinians have the right to sovereignty and statehood,” reaffirming the two-state solution.
