The CEO of an Indian artificial intelligence (AI) company has been detained on charges of killing her four-year-old son at an Airbnb property in the tourist state of Goa.
Suchana Seth, co-founder of the company Mindful AI Lab, was arrested on Monday while traveling to Bengaluru, allegedly carrying her son's remains in her luggage.
The 39-year-old mother and her kid checked into a rented service flat in Candolim, North Goa, on January 6, according to local authorities.
During the early hours of January 8th, Seth asked the apartment staff to arrange for a cab to travel almost 600 kilometers by road from Goa to Bengaluru in Karnataka.
The next morning, the apartment staff raised an alert after noticing red stains in the room, which they assumed were blood, North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan said in a press conference on Tuesday.
The apartment's management notified the local police, who responded quickly and first determined that the streaks were blood.
When asked about the stains over the phone, she claimed it was because of her menstrual cycle and that she had left her son in Margao town with a friend, according to the police.
The police directed the taxi driver to take the vehicle to the nearest police station without Seth's knowledge because the address she provided proved to be false.
The boy's body was discovered in the luggage bag during a check at a police station in Karnataka's Chitradurga district.
She was detained eight hours into her journey and accused of murder. Seth was brought back to Goa for an appearance in district court.
The child's body was left behind in Chitradurga district for an autopsy, according to the police.
The authorities were trying to determine the reason for the crime.
Seth is from India's eastern state of West Bengal, and she is married to a man from Kerala. Her estranged husband, Venkat Raman, lives in Jakarta and has been asked to return to India, according to authorities.
