Microsoft has announced the introduction of an artificial intelligence (AI) key, the most significant modification to its keyboards in three decades.

The key will grant customers access to Copilot, Microsoft's artificial intelligence application, on new Windows 11 PCs.

Microsoft has made a significant investment in OpenAI, which drives Copilot's AI capabilities.

In 2023, it will incorporate AI into additional products such as Microsoft 365 and Bing Search.

Rival For several years, Apple has incorporated a Siri button or option on its touch bar on Macbooks.

Copilot assists customers with tasks such as searching, emailing, and producing photos.

Microsoft senior vice president Yusuf Mehdi called the update "transformative" in a blog post announcing it, comparing it to the advent of the Windows key over 30 years ago.

He went on to say that it will "simplify" and "amplify" the user experience.

The redesigned keyboards are slated to appear on new items beginning in February.

Microsoft will demonstrate some of the gadgets that will be available with the Copilot key during the forthcoming CES tech expo, which begins next week in Las Vegas.

Copilot may summarise meetings, compose emails, and make presentations when linked with Office 365 products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

It has also been included in the Bing search engine.
