The internet giants Meta (META.O) and Amazon (AMZN.O) pledged to support fair competition on their retail platforms, according to a statement released by Britain's competition authority on Friday.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has concluded its inquiry into Amazon Marketplace and Meta's use of advertising data with the pledges made by the major US internet companies.

In order to ensure that third-party marketplace vendors may compete fairly, Amazon has pledged not to use the marketplace data of rival sellers to obtain an unfair advantage, according to the CMA.

According to the statement, Amazon pledges to guarantee that independent merchants using the marketplace will have an equal opportunity to have their offerings shown in the "Buy Box".

Despite Meta's pledges to refrain from "exploiting" the data of its advertising clients, rivals who run ads on its platforms can "opt out" of having their information utilized to enhance Facebook Marketplace.

Meta declared that it was pleased with the regulator's choice.

According to CMA's preliminary assessment from July, Amazon's proposal to modify how it handles independent merchants utilizing its Marketplace platform resolves concerns about competition.
